Cytotoxicity of Ionic Liquids on Normal Human Dermal Fibroblasts in the Context of Their Present and Future Applications

The skin is the part of body that most exposed to toxic substances; therefore, impact chemicals on should be thoroughly studied prior their implementation in any industrial-scale application. Herein, we examined and analyzed influence structure both cation anion 31 different ionic liquids (ILs) cytotoxicity against normal human dermal fibroblasts context present future potential applications. We found imidazolium-based ILs combined with dialkyl phosphate anions or ethyl sulfate are least cytotoxic. Notably, 1,3-diethylimidazolium can potentially used as a hydraulic fluid similar commercially available medium based 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium sulfate. Moreover, phosphate-based considered an efficient solvent for utilization lignocellulose-based biomass extractant eco-friendly cost-effective processes extraction bioplastic. Pyrrolidinium-based cyano-based ILs, often heat transfer media base fluids ionanofluids, were also identified herein good candidates relatively low toxicity compared other ILs.
